    Reiki

Janet Dobbs has trained as a Reiki Teacher and Practitioner in many branches of "western" Reiki". In April 2007 she trained with Frans Stiene of the International House of Reiki, Sydney, Australia. (www.reiki.net.au ) Janet now teaches Traditional Japanese Reiki called Usui Reiki Ryoho.

Janet always felt that there was something missing in the teachings of the various branches of "western" Reiki that she had studied and found what she had been seeking in this more traditional form of Reiki. A group of 30 plus Reiki teachers and advanced level Reiki students attended a Shinpiden course taught by Frans Stiene, April 2007 in New York City. All of the students in the course were searching for more in their teaching and practices. "As a group we were all transformed by the teachings and our energy levels reached levels that we could only have dreamed of. The new teachings were so simple and yet powerful. The experience changed my life, the way I practice Reiki sessions for both humans and animals, and the way that I teach Reiki courses. I am happy and honored to be able to share these teachings with others," said Janet.

Animal Paradise - Communication & Healing, LLC is happy to be offering the series of Reiki courses and workshops. This series of Reiki workshops is for both humans and animals. You can read about Reiki, but until you experience it for yourself, either receiving a Reiki treatment and/or offering one, you will never know what it actually is. Each person has a different experience. The most common effect of a Reiki session is deep relaxation. Many of us are filled with stress from our day to day living experience. Stress is a big cause of disease. If you relax, you can heal yourself. The same applies to our animal companions.

 What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese word made up of two kanji or letters/symbols. Rei translates as "spiritual" and Ki translates as energy. Ki in Japanese is the same as Chi in Chinese. Ki is the life force that runs and flows through every living thing. Reiki means "spiritual energy".

Reiki deepens the connection and relationship between humans and their animal companions. Reiki and animal communication work hand in hand but they are not the same, at least when one is beginning. It is suggested that anyone that uses Reiki with animals at least attend an introductory course in animal communication at some point. Being able to ask an animal how they feel and if they would like a treatment at that time, and to let the  animal know they can take as much or as little of the Reiki energy as they need, or even the fact that they don't have to take any at all, before beginning a Reiki session, empowers the animal, some for the first time in their life. It may be helpful to use many of the skills that one can learn in the Basic 2-Day Animal Communication course, such as being able to tell where an animal may be hurting or uncomfortable. Many issues that may come up in an animal communication session, from physical issues to behavior issues, can be helped and/or supported by Reiki.

"Modern" Reiki

The term "Modern" Reiki covers all branches of Reiki that came from the lineages of Reiki through Mrs. Takata. Some of Mrs. Takata's students formed the Reiki Alliance while others went off on their own. You can learn about many of the "branches" of Reiki in the book The Reiki Sourcebook by Frans & Bronwen Stiene. Some of the "Modern" Reiki branches include The Radiance Technique, Tibetan Reiki, Rainbow Reiki, and hundreds more throughout the world. Most of these branches of Reiki have come about over the past 20 years during the New Age Movement in the West.

Modern Reiki emphasizes hands on healing.

 Traditional Japanese Reiki

There are some Reiki teachers and practitioners  (from the west) that felt there was more to Reiki than what was being taught in all of the Modern/Western Reiki schools. Some of these people have been and are doing extensive research into the history of Reiki. To learn about the history of Reiki one must go to Japan where it all began. There many of these researchers found people that had studied Reiki with Usui himself or with some of his students. What was discovered is Reiki was originally a spiritual practice. Don't confuse spiritual with organized religion. Reiki is not a religion but a spiritual self practice. We must work on ourselves before we can heal others. To do that, one practices the System of Reiki.

The System of Reiki consists of 5 elements.
  1. The Precepts
  2. Meditations
  3. Symbols & Mantras
  4. Attunement/Reiju
  5. Hands on healing
